I had stopped making this body butter for a while and a client contacted me to make them some. I am so glad that she did because I forgot how much I love making it and how amazing it makes my skin feel. I decided to share my recipe for those who would like to attempt to make it at home. You can play around with the recipe if you would like. There are certain things that change the consistency. I started making a smaller batch with the unrefined butters because it does not have a longer shelf life. You can use refined butters, but I feel they are stripped of what makes the skin feel soft and nourished. I use a blend of my favorite oils. Jojoba is my favorite and amazing for skin but very expensive. I have used grapeseed, avocado, sunflower and sweet almond oil. You can buy these at local stores, but I would get the high-quality kind. You can play around with essential oil blends. Get a q-tip and add some drops that speak to you. Some of my favorite synergies are orange, lavender and chamomile together. It makes me feel calm and at peace... which is why I named this one Calm Spirit. I highly recommend checking out a book on essential oils and carrier oils. I had to take a course on aromatherapy while at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. It was one of the best courses ever. I learned about the quality and powers of oils. I suggest you find a book that educates you on the differences of fragrance and genuine essential oils. A website should tell you where the oils were sourced from. I love Mountain Rose Herbs. I also love Plant Therapy. You can get these products at a local health store as well such as Earthfare. I use a cheap kitchen scale from Amazon like this and weigh my ingredients in grams. I also use a double broiler setup. I have a stainless steel pot and a Pyrex glass measuring cup. Lastly, a good immersion blender and whip attachment to whip that butter up nicely. You can get all of this at Walmart at a decent price as well. I will make a video soon to add. Here is my recipe: Ingredients for a Whole Batch (Half Batch Listed BELOW) 85 g Unrefined Shea Butter 56 g Unrefined Mango Butter 28 g Unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil 14 g beeswax (I use pastilles) 64 g of carrier oils of your choice. I use grapeseed, sweet almond, and jojoba. Just pour a blend in until it reaches 64 g. Get creative. Few Drops of Vitamin E Oil Essential Oils if you want it scented. You have to pick blend and amount depending on your preference. 2 Tbsp witch hazel or hydrosol (see below) I then add Tbsp of hyrdrosol or witch hazel. I love witch hazel but want to give you the option of using a hydrosol of your choice. If you are making a rose scented butter then a rose hydrosol would be lovely. You can add 1/4 tsp of borax to preserve it. I use Vitamin E, mainly. Half Batch Listed Below Half Batch Recipe (Great for making for just a couple of people) Ingredients: 70 g Unrefined Shea Butter 14 g Unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil 7 g Beeswax (I use pastilles) 32 g mixture of jojoba, sunflower, grapeseed and sweet almond oils. (You can use just one type of oil or a blend like I do.) Few Drops of VItamin E Oil 1/8 tsp borax (optional) Essential oils of your choice for scent. You can leave this out for a pure body butter. It will smell of shea butter. I left the mango butter out of the half batch. You can add it if you wish, just lower the amount of Shea if you do. Also, you can add cocoa butter for another option. Directions - Place the Pyrex glass measuring cup on the scale and tare it out. Then add each ingredient except the vitamin e oil, witch hazel(or hydrosol)and essential oils, if you are adding those. Create a double broiler with stainless steel pot. When you place the Pyrex glass with ingredients into the pot you want to add just enough water to the pot that comes almost half way up the glass. You do not want water getting into the mixture. Now on medium to low heat, allow the butters, coconut oil and beeswax to melt completely. Once they have melted add your vitamin E oil and essential oils. You can also add the borax if you wish. Allow to sit and cool until it starts to congeal. Then use the immersion blender and mix it until it turns a nice white color. This is where you will add the witch hazel or hydrosol. You can now add to container of your choice. I use metal tins. Or, you can place in fridge and then use the whisker to whip it up some more. Sometimes the butter looks greasy when applied but it quickly absorbs into the skin. It smells amazing. If you need any help, reach out to me at my email. If you do not feel like making this body butter and want to buy it in my Etsy Shop you may do so. I have it in 2-ounce containers at the moment.
